Living History at Liberty Hall Museum: Christine Kean Griffin
Liberty Hall Museum and Kean University commemorate Christine Kean Griffin and the service of all Civil War Nurses with the exhibit, “The Weary and the Wounded: 72 Hours in the Life of a Civil War Nurse”.
Christine Kean Griffin (c . 1826-1915), widow of naval officer William Preston Griffin, served on the Board of Managers of the Women’s Central Association of Relief. She served as a superintendent on the the transport ships from early May 1862 until illness forced her to return to New York on June 19. In less than a month she returned to her work on the hospital ships.
